OKP Premiere: Hear A Soul-Smothered New Gem From The Dap-Kings

As far as modern soul is concerned, there may not be a sound more regal or influential than that of The Dap-Kings. They've backed giants like Sharon JonesAmy Winehouse and Mark Ronson, contributing a masterful command of the foundational r&b elements and air-tight musicianship to some of their most memorable scores. But in all these years of enjoying the fruits of their labor, there's only been one true compendium of their efforts, culminating in the Daptone label's Daptone Gold, released all the way back in 2009. However, with the sequel to that massive compilation slated to land next Friday, September 18th, we're happy bring you the premiere of a soul-smothered unheard from the foundational Daptone crew.

"Thunderclap" finds The Dap-Kings tapping into more psychedelic tones and textures as they absolutely slay a cold, hard groove, reminiscent of The Temptations' "Cloud Nine" or mid-70s, full-mustache mode James Brown. And it's all just a glimpse at the funk these fellas will display on the forthcoming release, which hosts the likes of the mighty Miss Jones, Anitbalas, The Budos Band, Lee Fields and so many more from their incomparable roster of towering talents. Hear The Dap-Kings get loose on "Thunderclap" below and preorder your copy of Daptone Gold Vol. 2 on iTunes today.
