If you were expecting anything even resembling normalcy, you really haven’t been paying attention to either of their careers. Kool Keith and MF DOOM themselves don’t make appearances in the video, but they’re well represented by their signature props.
Looking like a missing scene from Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, Kool Keith drops a video for the hard-hitting track “Super Hero” with an assist from the villain. You already knew a collabo with these two would be fire, but the video is honestly just as impressive. Director Kris Merc speaks on the concept:
I wanted to capture something that felt like a visual pop travesty. I wanted it to visually speak to the legacy of the artists, and Afrofuturism mixed with comic book concepts. I’m a fan of the unseen, and I was obsessed with the idea of using DOOM’s mask and the iconography as a centralized point — as if time and space converged around these strange, sometimes magical tableaus and we were witnessing an ascension.
You can find this one on Kool Keith’s new album, Feature Magnetic, which is out now on iTunes or limited edition vinyl.
