First Look artist and fresh face Andra Day grants us behind the scenes access to the set of the Spike Lee-directed video for her recent single "Forever Mine" in this Okayplayer video exclusive. We already knew the visuals were stunning and the music was banging in its own smokey, throwback soul fashion. But there's nothing quite like watching a G.O.A.T. at work, and Spike Lee fans will doubtless have their notepads out and eyes glued to the screen from the moment the clapboard slaps shut (yup. they really do that) and calls out: "and...Action!" Those same Lee fans will of course recognize that the look of the video could be read as a tribute or perhaps a logical extension of his brilliant sleeper film Girl 6, distilling the struggle of a beautiful black woman balancing her dignity and her sexuality (in a world that seems set up to make those two qualities mutually exclusive) down to a sort of minimal microcosm called simply "Da Box." Da Box, of course is not just a visual metaphor for Spike's ever-evolving cinematic themes, however, but a neat illustration of the themes in the song as well and music fans will be equally intrigued at Andra's thoughts on how her writerly concepts and Spike's visuals dovetail onscreen:

"Really, Da Box represents my sanctuary: the place where I'm the most candid, the most open, where confessions come out, prayers come out, creativity happens. So it's my perspective of everyone else."

Getting a glimpse of the production stills and unguarded behind the scenes moments are cool, too. But of course the real pay-off still comes when Andra hits that high note. Watch the full BTS webisode below and be sure to be on the lookout for more big things from Ms. Day in the very near future!
