Not that you should be surprised or alarmed at this point, but it appears that D’Angelo‘s added another show cancellation to the year. Late last month, D announced that he would be removing himself from the bill for the Bill Withers tribute show at Carnegie Hall along with an appearance at the Atlanta installment of Afropunk Festival, which was cancelled altogether due to inclement weather. And today, it appears that he will also forego performing at Austin’s forthcoming Fun Fun Fun Fest next weekend, where he and the mighty Vanguard were slated to appear on November 8th.
But the news isn’t all bad, as yet another neo-soul luminary and former collaborator will be taking the baton. The festival has announced that Miss Lauryn Hill will be subbing-in for D at the festival, which should hold attendees over just fine. Other performers for the Fun Fun Fun Festival include Neon Indian, Toro Y Moi, Afrika Bambaataa, Joey Bada$$ and plenty more. So don’t get discouraged, folks, there’s still plenty to look forward to. And trust, if you ever want to see one of D’Angelo’s legendary funk & soul reviews again, give the man some time recover. It’s well worth the wait.
