Waajeed Breaks Down J Dilla's "Tomita" Beat

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

In the latest and final installment of the Bling47 Breaks Dilla Edition series, Waajeed explains the passion behind the venture that was launched to bring more clarity to the life and music of J Dilla. Posting the last episode almost one year in Waajeed is grateful to have been able to provide the insight, but is prepared to get back to work on his own projects. Those include work on his new label Dirt Tech Reck. Jeedo explains that he and Dilla bought the 1978 album Kosmos by Isao Tomita while shopping for vinyl together - an excursion that led to the creation of Dilla's "Tomita" beat--and the founding of Bling47, in a roundabout sort of way. Grateful to have his Sundays back to himself, Waajeed suggests all of the people inspired by the series spend their newfound free time making their own original music instead of copying other producers - a move he assures viewers Dilla would never make if he were still alive. While you're busy doing that Waajeed will probably be at home popping popcorn.
