Megan Thee Stallion Says Tory Lanez Tried To Pay Her for Her Silence After Shooting

The rapper shares additional facts that took place after the violent incident.

Megan Thee Stallion is no longer shying away from addressing the shooting incident that involved Tory Lanez during the summer.

In a newly released GQ profile, the rapper shares that before the shooting, she felt a feeling in her gut that she shouldn’t have been riding back to her home with Lanez, his bodyguard and a friend of hers. Since her phone was dead and she only had a bikini on, she felt her options were limited. According to Megan, when she tried to get out of the car more than once. After the second time Lanez shot at her feet, hitting both heels. “Like, I never put my hands on nobody,” Megan said. “I barely even said anything to the man who shot me when I was walking away. We were literally like five minutes away from the house.”

Following the shooting, she says Lanez offered to pay her and her friend off to stay quiet about the incident. He begged her to not say anything. "[At this point] I'm really scared," she said. “Because this is like right in the middle of all the protesting. Police are just killing everybody for no reason, and I'm thinking, ‘I can't believe you even think I want to take some money. Like, you just shot me.’” A lawyer from Tory’s team denies this is true.

Due to the problematic relationship that exists between Blacks and the police, when they arrived at the scene, she recalls saying she cut her feet. She felt they’d all be arrested or would deal with police brutality, possibly due to the optics presented that evening. Lanez was ultimately charged with felony assault for the incident.

Fast forward to the public scrutiny that followed the shooting for days and months, Megan felt as though she had to be strong despite the violent night she’d experienced. “I have to be tough through all this? All the time? It was like, who really checks on us or who protected us? You just go your whole life with that mentality,” she said. “And then when something actually happens to you, when you properly should have protected yourself, your first instinct was not to protect yourself, it was protecting other people … So it was like, ‘What do I do?”

Ultimately, she reminded herself she was still Megan Thee Stallion. Instead of halting her summer, she regrouped and then got back in her bag. She went on to drop the chart-topping single "W.A.P." with Cardi B and the eccentric single "Don't Stop" with Young Thug. A month ago, she gave a memorable politically charged Saturday Night Live performance. Megan even penned a moving New York Timesop-ed focusing on Black women. To top off her momentous 2020, she’s dropping her debut album Good News on Friday, November 20.
