Kamala Harris’ team “has expressed disappointment over the magazine’s decision” to use an a more casual image of the vice president-elect for its cover.

Early Sunday morning, Vogue magazine shared images from its cover shoot with Kamala Harris. But rather than going with the more formal image of the vice president-elect in a powder-blue power suit, the magazine opted out for a more casual image of Harris in sneakers, slacks and a blazer for its print edition cover.

The magazine faced criticism for this, with some saying that the photo choice was disrespectful. Some critics even called out Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour.

Well, turns out that Harris’ team also isn’t thrilled about the photo Vogue went with either. In a report from the Los Angeles Times, an anonymous person involved in the negotiations over how Harris would be featured in the cover said that the team “has expressed to Vogue its disappointment over the magazine’s decision.” Harris’ team also didn’t know that the cover photo had been switched until the images were leaked late Saturday, according to the anonymous source.

Amid the backlash, Vogue released a statement explaining why it chose the casual image of Harris for its cover, saying that the photo captured her “authentic, approachable nature, which we feel is one of the hallmarks of the Biden-Harris administration.” The magazine also said that it released both images as digital magazine covers to “respond to the seriousness of this moment in history, and the role she has to play leading our country forward.”
