Pass The Popcorn: Ike & Tina Turner "On The Road 1971-72"

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.Ike & Tina Turner

By now, we're all familiar with the story of Ike & Tina Turner, the husband and wife duo who brought a new energy to rhythm and blues and rock music in the 1960s and 1970s.  That familiarity is probably largely colored by the Laurence Fishburne and Angela Bassett's portrayal of the volatile duo in the 1993 film What's Love Got To Do With It.  Prepare to see another less sensational, but no-less interesting side of the couple in Ike And Tina: On The Road 1971-72. Comprised of footage shot by noted rock photographer Bob Gruen and his wife Nadya, On The Road features Ike & Tina hard at work on and off stage, proving that there was far more to the pair than their highly-publicized domestic abuse situation.

In a clip posted to Rolling Stone, Ike and Tina are seen working at Ike's Bullock Sound Studio in Los Angeles.  Tina is discussing the concept behind a song she is currently writing with her background singers, The Ikettes.

Ike & Tina: On The Road 1971-72 is out on DVD November 20th!
