De La Soul Hide Limited Edition 'Smell The Da.I.S.Y.s' Instrumental Records Across The Country
De La Soul is calling for the crate-digger in ya with an extremely limited release of their J Dilla produced mixtape Smell The Da.I.S.Ys on vinyl, hiding 100 copies in record stores across the country for tomorrow's Record Store Day roll-out. Honoring the legacy of The GOAT, De La's sending its loyal fan-base on a no-holds-bar chase through their local record shops to find the golden LP, bearing only the highly coveted instrumental takes used for their tributary tape, which should put Dilla aficionados at ease, knowing quite a few (including this writer) who take cumbrance from posthumous releases of the great's work.
“The reason we choose to release an all-instrumental version of Smell The Da.I.S.Y. is to give people the experience of a J Dilla beat tape that we were so lucky to receive. These beat tapes were the springboard that generated creation and inspiration for us.” - Trugoy the Dove
They've provided only 6 clues on their site (with additional hints on their Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts) as to where you might be able to cop the über-rare pressing, so if you happen to be one of the few that get to take full advantage of the day, you better start early. Those that don't get the opportunity to scour their city for LP should be prepared to tap into that tax refund, as the Strong Island trio is auctioning off 5 copies on Ebay. So strap on your runners, cash that check and get to a crate shop near you to join the nationwide search for the ever elusive instrumental release of De La's homage to Jay Dee's legacy. Download the original release via BitTorrent today. Happy hunting y'all.
