"Black Progress is a Bipartisan Issue": Ice Cube on Working with The Trump Administration

Ice Cube revealed a Contract With Black America that differs from Donald Trump's Platinum Plan.

After a contentious bout with critics over the reveal of his involvement in the Trump administration's "Platinum Plan," Ice Cube continued to defend his role in the initiative on Thursday.

"Black progress is a bipartisan issue," the rapper wrote on Twitter this morning. "When we created the Contract With Black America we excepted to talk to both sides of the [aisle.] Talking truth to power is part of the process," he added. And when The Washington Post jabbed at the NWA rapper for flipping from explicitly anti-Trump to circumstantially aiding the current White House regime, Cube fired back, stating "I will advise anybody on the planet who has the power to help Black Americans close the enormous wealth gap."

And though he's certainly not walking anything back, the rapper's role in the conception of Trump's Platinum Plan has already cost him at least one press opportunity. This morning, the rapper claimed his interview with Chris Cuomo had been canceled, presumably as a result of revealing his hand in shaping the plan.

On Wednesday, Donald Trump revealed his 'Platinum Plan' to engage with Black Americans, just weeks before Election Day. In a strange twist, Trump senior advisor Katrina Pierson revealed that the administration got assistance from an unlikely participant--Ice Cube.

Trump's "Platinum Plan" took some inspiration from Cube's 13-point Contract With Black America. However, there are some major omissions from Cube's plan. Trump's proposal includes prosecuting the Ku Klux Klan as a terrorist organization, but also suggests prosecuting "Antifa," a decentralized group of people who are against fascism. Trump promises to make Juneteenth a federal holiday, and wants to bolster Black economics.

"Facts," Cube tweeted on Wednesday. "I put out the Contract With Black America. Both parties contacted me. Dems said we'll address the CWBA after the election. Trump campaign made some adjustments to their plan."

Cube's plan calls for bank lending reform, regulating banks to lend a percentage of all loan and credit categories on an equal basis to the Black population. It calls for federal trust funds for every child, giving them full access to the funds at the age of 18. Notably, Cube's plan calls for the abolition of private prisons, disallowing prison labor without consent, and for nonviolent offenders incarcerated longer than ten years to be freed, contingent upon good behavior. This particular point in the plan is also absent from Trump's proposal.

Recent polls show that Joe Biden leads Trump by 75-point margin among Black voters.
