The Six Officers Charged For The Murder Of Freddie Gray Have Been Indicted

Less than a month after the senseless murder of 25-year-old Freddie Graythe six officers charged have officially been indicted, under a slightly revised set of charges. Lest the words 'revised charges' bring out your most cynical reactions to the justice system investigating the abuses of the justice system, the revisions are minimal and the very first charge on the list reads 'Second Degree Depraved Heart Murder'.

According to a statement from Maryland State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby (who charged the officers just a few weeks ago) the officers will be arraigned in court on July 2nd, which is damn near a statistical anomaly when it comes to cases of police brutality--especially in light of the frequency in which we've seen them arise in the past year--which typically generate headlines, less often inquiries, occasionally hearings, in the rare case actual charges. But almost never indictments and an actual trial. And while this is not yet the moment of justice Charm City protestors have longed for, it is a huge step on the way to putting at ease a city still reeling in disbelief and mourning the loss of so many they've seen taken at the hands of those meant to protect them. We'll keep our eyes and ears our for developments, but for now, we can at least trumpet Mosby's efforts and hope that when these men and women finally see their day in court, that we'll have the victory that city needs so desperately to repair the spirits of its populous. Watch the press conference below and scroll down to see the full list of revised charges brought against each of the six officers.
