This past weekend saw some of the entertainment industry's brightest stars aligning under common cause at the prestigious Clinton Global Citizen Awards, established by none other than former president Bill Clinton. In the ninth annual proceedings, the foundation honored some of the world's most outstanding beacons of progress in the fields of healthcare, poverty, economic empowerment, legal aid, and women's leadership.

Those individuals included Sheikha Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qasimi for her humanitarian efforts in all parts of the world, Aliko Dangote for his leadership in the private sector as president and CEO of Dangote Group, investing in the futures of West African leaders, Syeda Ghulam Fatima for her advocacy of core labor standards in Pakistan, as well as Alan Knight and Raj Panjabi for their private sector leadership in the efforts to combat the ongoing Ebola crisis.

Needless to say, the room had all the star-power in the world, and that was before The Roots and Janelle Monáe ever took the stage, rocking in tandem at a performance that had Randy Jackson at the helm as the evening's musical director and members of Monáe's air-tight ensemble all joining in on the celebration. While we can't bring you anything audible from the historic occasion, our very own Mel D. Cole was in attendance, camera-in-hand, to grab just a few of the evening's guests, which included the Clinton family, hip-hop founding father Fred Braithwaite AKA Fab 5 Freddy (!), Rainn Wilson (of The Office fame), Sean Penn, Mo Ibrahim, Trudie Styler and plenty more. Comb through the gallery above to see what all the fuss is about. Global citizenship never looked so funky.
