Spike Lee, Ray Allen Discussing 'He Got Game' Sequel With A Rising NBA Star

Williamson originally expressed interest in remaking the film in 2019.

LeBron James recently announced the title of the forthcoming Space Jam sequel. Weeks afterwards, another hoops legend revealed another remake of a classic could be on the way.

Spike Lee and Ray Allen recently appeared on the Jordan Brand live streaming show Encore. During their appearance, the two revealed there have been discussions for a He Got Game sequel.

"We were trying to get a meeting with [Zion Williamson] before [the COVID-19 pandemic]," Spike said. "Ray Allen and I were trying to get a meeting with him in New Orleans. I'm still for it."

Ray Allen and Denzel Washington starred in the 1998 film. Allen played Jesus Shuttlesworth, the top-ranked basketball recruit in the country.

In the 2013 cover story by Sports Illustrated's Lee Jenkins, it was revealed the role was originally offered to Kobe Bryant in 1997. However, a recent loss in the playoffs to the Utah Jazz was too fresh in his mind to focus on the role.

In 2018, Denzel Washington joined Bill Simmons' podcast. During his appearance, he revealed Tracy McGrady was also under consideration for the role.

In a 2019 interview with Esquire, Zion expressed his interest in the role. "I would wanna be in the sequel to 'He Got Game,' he said. "I would definitely want to be like, in Part 2 of that movie."
