Beats 1 To Premiere Unheard J-Dilla-Produced Phife Dawg Cut "Nutshell" Tomorrow
Late last year, we had the pleasure of cluing you in to “Nutshell”; a little unheard treasure from the late Phife Dawg, produced by none other than J Dilla. Those 15 seconds of undeniable and unflinching Phife rhymes over the hard, slightly-swung knock of a Dilla suite were certainly enough to get us salivating for more. Tomorrow, we’ll fish our wish, as Beats 1 readies the full premiere of “Nutshell,” which will simultaneously become available for purchase on iTunes at that time.
The track is a taste of the album Phife had been working on up until his tragic passing on March 22nd, the video for which will premiered at a star-studded invite-only satellite celebration at The Apollo Theater tomorrow. If you were one of the legion that showed up at St. Alban’s Park in Queens today for A Tribe Called Quest’s Celebration Of Phife, than you already have your stub. We do not yet know when or even if tickets will be made available to the public, but those of you that procured tickets in the park today, will certainly be in for a treat, as we’re told the tribute will be loaded with special guests.
Whet your palette with the teaser for Phife Dawg and J Dilla’s “Nutshell” below and be sure to check back tomorrow for the full script.
