Blood Orange Okayplayer Summerstage concert series

As we count down to the final Okayplayer Summerstage show (featuring Blood Orange, Moses Sumney and Sean Nicholas Savage) it’s safe to say the 5-concert series has been a resounding success thus far, not to mention a star-studded affair. Mick Jagger turned up to see Chronixx perform on the LargeUp edition. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (!) attended the Blue Note 75th Anniversary party with Gregory Porter that was the Revive installment. There’s really no telling who will show up to watch Top 14 artists to watch Moses S or Devonté Hynes do their highly-rated thing for the final comedown on August 16th (that’s a week from Saturday). But even if it’s just us, Moses and Dev, it’s already the show of the century in our book–come true and join us in celebrating our 15th Anniversary! It’s free! Complete details below:

Okayplayer is psyched to announce that we are bringing our year-long 15th anniversary celebration to New York’s world-famous Central Park with a free series of SummerStage concerts featuring performances by Blood Orange, Gregory Porter & The Revive Big Band, Bonobo, Cibo Matto, Chronixx and more! Presented in collaboration with sister sites Okayafrica, Okayfuture, Revive Music and LargeUp, each event will showcase talent from that site’s particular arena and the series will unfold throughout the season at the main SummerStage location at Rumsey Playfield in Central Park.

As Daniel Petruzzi, Okayplayer’s President, says:

“We’re pleased to be partnering with SummerStage to bring our 15th anniversary celebration to Central Park. It’s exciting to work with an organization that shares Okayplayer’s mission to present an eclectic mix of established and emerging talent. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone out there celebrating with us at this landmark venue!”

In honor of the big 1-5, we are determined to party our way thoughout 2014 with the stamina of 15-year-olds, and the SummerStage series is just the centerpiece of a year-long celebration that kicked off with the annual Holiday Jam in December 2013, followed by the January premiere of Okayafrica’s Finding Fela at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, a four day series of South By Southwest concerts in March and the Roots Picnic in May at Philadelphia’s Festival Pier (for which Okayplayer served as the official media partner).
