LargeUp Top 10: Trini Gladiators

Now, this is exactly the type of sh+t we keep LargeUp on deck for: reasons to watch Fu-Schnickens videos in the office! Actually it is a rundown of their Top-10-Trini-Rappers-Besides-Nicki-Minaj (can't tell you who #1 is, but hint: his DJ pushes the fader from here to Grenada). A few (Theophilus, Foxy Brown) are pretty well-known but a few (KRS anybody? Poetic from the Gravediggaz? Not to mention Bang 'em Smurf) will test your rap knowledge to the limits. My personal fav tho, has to be Chip-Fu, just because I've had  "La Schmoove" on the brain ever since this Ali Shaheed interview. Hard hitting journalism which forces us to ask the big questions. Questions like: Did Poc-Fu coin the phrase 'in there like swimwear'? Or was it Moc-Fu? Watch above and judge for yourself. Then read Rishi Bonneville and Jesse Serwer's erudite write-up below and get the full top 10 including Chip-Fu's new school weed anthem "Love Mi Sensi" and mad other videos with the full Top 10 on LargeUp.

As a member of the lighthearted early ’90s rap trio Fu-Schnickens (best known for ’92′s “La Schmoove,” featuring fellow Trini Phife Dawg) Chip Fu brought forth a dancehall-influenced, high-speed chatting style that had most people assuming the half-Trini, half-Bajan MC was Jamaican. After years away from hip-hop, the East Flatbush, Brooklyn native has recently returned as a solo act, dropping straight-up dancehall tracks like “Love Mi Sensi.”
