Bobby Womack sits down with his Bravest Man In The Universe collaborators Damon Albarn and Richard Russell to discuss how they linked and what the creative process of making the record was like. Pretty much any words from the mouth of Bobby Womack are worth recording, in my book and it’s especially interesting to hear him and Albarn going back and forth about their favorite chords (“sevenFs and ninFs” in Albarn’s Whitechapel cockney). But if you’re planning to start a label in this post-apocalyptic digital music landscape, Russell’s philosophy may be the one you want to take notes on, since dude has built XL Records into one of the only labels out there that does what a label is supposed to do–find, sign and nurture talent, putting out great records in the process.
