The Odd Future founder offers a comprehensive account of his star-studded third album’s creation.
It’s been two long years since Tyler The Creator graced the world with something in the way of new music.
Save for an appearance on Frank Ocean‘s blond(e)d and a contribution to the fellow Odd Future alum’s Boys Don’t Cry zine, Tyler’s output seems to be strictly geared towards big and small screen endeavors, with two new projects being picked by Adult Swim (The Jellies) and VICELAND respectively. But as we await a return to record, an intimate and detailed account of creating his third studio album, Cherry Bomb, has arrived. Teased with trailers and loose clips ahead of its early 2017 premiere in LA, the Cherry Bomb documentary chronicles the making of a star-studded body of work from Tyler, guiding some of his heroes — Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Charlie Wilson, Toro y Moi, Syd and more — through the creation of a particularly twisted vision, though certainly his most mature offering to date, stitched together with concert footage from his Camp Flog Gnaw Festival in a 45-minute piece directed by Mikey Alfred.
