Disney Is Slowly Teasing X-Men’s Arrival In Marvel By Reviving the ’90s Cartoon Series

Disney announced a handful of Marvel Studios shows during its Disney+ Day, including a new version of the X-Men cartoon.

Disney plans on expanding its Marvel universe with a handful of new and old shows, including the beloved X-Men cartoon from the ’90s.

During its Disney+ Day event, Disney offered a sneak peek on new Marvel Studios shows that are in the works. This included new first looks at already announced shows like Moon KnightMs. Marvel, and Secret Invasion, as well as the announcement of new shows such as Spider-Man: Freshman YearMarvel Zombies, and Agatha: House of Darkness.

But it’s also apparent that Disney is slowly teasing X-Men’s arrival in Marvel by announcing the X-Men ’97 animated series.

“This is the first X-Men title produced by Marvel Studios,” Brad Winderbaum, head of Streaming, Television, and Animation at Marvel Studios, said during a This Week in Marvel interview. “What an amazing first step to reintroduce audiences to the X-Men with a look at one of the most pinnacle eras of the X-Men comics, which was the ’90s. That iconic style that has its roots in Chris Claremont, and is celebrated in Jim Lee, and then again in The Animated Series.”

The show will be a sequel to X-Men: The Animated Series, but not much else is known about it. Original cast members — Cal Dodd, Lenore Zann, George Buza, Alison Sealy-Smith, Chris Potter, Catherine Disher, Adrian Hough, and Christopher Britton —will be returning for X-Men ’97, with some of them reprising their original roles while others will voice entirely brand-new parts. The series will also be bringing in new voice actors to the cast, including including Jennifer Hale, Anniwaa Buachie, Ray Chase, Matthew Waterson, JP Karliak, Holly Chou, Jeff Bennett, and AJ LoCascio.

X-Men ’97 cartoon will arrive on Disney+ in 2023.
