It’s been a year since Verzuz has started. And it’s grown expediently. It’s gone from two people on their phones, to live events, and partnerships with brands like Triller, Peloton, and the NFL.
It’s only right that Verzuz try some more unorthodox matchups. (And, no, we’re not talking about a social justice Verzuz with Shaun King.) Could comedy work? Damon Wayans seems to think so.
The legendary comedian appeared on KBXX 97.9 the Box in Houston. While there, Wayans was asked about Verzuz. Wayans admitted he hasn’t watched the series. And when he was asked who he would like to perform against, Wayans had one answer: Dave Chappelle.
He said: “Chappelle, I’m calling him out!”
This would be amazing. And Chappelle should seriously consider doing this. And besides, Verzuz needs something strong. Their last matchup, which was The Lox vs. Dipset — a show Jadakiss dominated — was seen as one of the best Verzuz matches so far. After the show, streams for Dipset and The Lox shot up.
Chappelle has been busy lately. He has been doing a number of shows around the country. Last week, it was announced that Chappelle will be joining Jon Stewart, Jimmy Fallon, Pete Davis, and more for a one night only show at Madison Square Garden to mark the 20th anniversary of 9/11.
Called NYC Still Rising After 20 Years: A Comedy Celebration, all proceeds will be going to various 9/11 charities. The show will be going down on September 12th.
