Maxo Announces New Album, 'Even God Has A Sense of Humor'

Southern California rapper Maxo has announced new album Even God Has A Sense of Humor, also dropping new video "Free!"

Rapper Maxo tries to get "Free!" on the second single from his upcoming album, Even God Has A Sense of Humor, due to release on February 22. Produced by Devin Morrison, "Free!" follows Maxo's Madlib-produced single "48" featuring Pink Siifu, which dropped last August. The "Free!" music video is also directed by Vincent Haycock, who last collaborated with Maxo on the black-and-white "48" visual.

EGHASOH, which arrives on Maxo's 28th birthday, comes nearly four years after his 2019 Def Jam debut, Lil Big Man. Executive produced by Mount Kimbie’s Dom Maker, the album includes features from Liv.e, KeiyaA, Melanie Charles and Siifu, along with additional production from Madlib, Karriem Riggins, Beat Butcha, Lastnamedavid and more.

“I done experienced the most — every feeling,” Maxo recently told The Fader about his new album. "To just get to this point and be present for it… Honestly, I don’t regret nothing because it really is life aside from new music. I’m a different person right now than I was when I started this.”

The artistic front cover of EGHASOH features three busts of Maxo handcrafted by sculptor John Ahearn and photographed by Steven Traylor. For the casting process, the rapper had to be still for 20 minutes for each sculpture to form, becoming a metaphor for ego death. A 1-minute behind-the-scene teaser shows Ahearn at work, while Maxo is heavily covered by molding paste.

“I had to go to a space where I was just not there,” Maxo said, according to a press release. “By the time it hardened, it seemed like the sculpture had risen to be 20 feet above where it was first— almost like it grew tall."
