Dr. Dre, Jaden Smith, Drake + More To Host New Beats 1 Radio Shows

As Apple gets closer and closer to the roll-out date of its new streaming service, the era of Beats 1 Radio is about to begin. With leadership coming from ex-BBC DJ Zane Lowe, the new digital radio channel will be an integral part of Apple's new sonic platform with both a Pandora-esque explore setting and regular hosted programs--that's where Beats 1 Radio comes in.

In a new interview with the New York Times, Lowe has revealed at least some of the roster of hosts that will cycle through Beats 1 Radio. In the mix we'll be hearing shows curated and run by Jaden SmithDisclosure, Drake, Pharrell and Beats Music's original founder >Dr. Dre (whose show will be dubbed "The Pharmacy").

Other hosts on the online radio station will include Elton John, St. Vincent and guitarist Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age, but further details including how often shows will play on-air, whether they will be semi-regular in the same sense as BBC Radio 1's artist residencies, or if some artists will be making 1-shot playlists and then closing up shop, have yet to be revealed. Lowe will be joined on air by Hot 97's Ebro Darden and Julie Adenuga in London. Discussing his goals for Beats 1, Lowe told the Times “When an artist goes on to have a brilliant career,” he answered, “and five years later we can look back and be proud of whatever role we had in that.” Beats 1, along with the rest of Apple Music, will go live for users on Tuesday, June 30th.
