Jidenna Ditches The Croon For Blazing Bars In A Live Treatment Of New Single "Long Live The Chief"

Of the myriad Wondaland wonders, Jidenna has emerged as the perfect compliment to the ATLien crew's sophisticated strut. Whether as their resident "Classic Man" or a two-headed croon/rap specialist, the East Flatbush word weaver has left much to be anticipated in his early years with Janelle Monáe's legion of soul music futurists. But J is more than just a dapper dude. Turns out, he's got daggers stashed behind the kerchief of that coat pocket. Today he's shared a live performance of the new single (presumably from Wondaland's forthcoming The Eephus EP) "Long Live The Chief," a fiery declaration of his presence in the rap game over a heated boom-bap production that will stand as a living testament to the man's regal microphone riffing. And yeah, we're still anxiously awaiting the arrival of that Eephus EPbut if this track and his recent collaboration with Ms. Monáe on her latest single "Yoga" prove anything, it's that our anxiety is more than justified in this particular case. So go ahead and watch as Jidenna ditches the croon for some blazing bars, live and direct, down below and keep your ears perked for rumblings on the new record in the weeks to come. Jump back to catch his late-night debut alongside Janelle Monáe on The Tonight Show.
