Chris Rock Opens Up About The Oscars Ceremony In Scrapped 'THR' Cover Story

It's the last Thursday of February, which means we're only days away from what is promising to be the whitest Oscars to date, hosted by one of the most irreverent comedians of a generation, Chris Rock, who happens to be black, and damn proud of it. A new interview with Rock for The Hollywood Reporter sets the stage for this weekend's festivities, conducted during a seemingly endless promo shoot for a forthcoming cover story for the magazine, which was scrapped, along with a grip of other interviews and appearances on account of #OscarsSoWhite.

Here, Rock hikes up the veil on his approach to playing host without ever revealing the full game plan, shouting out some of his favorite comedic talents that have taken the helm. In the case of Ellen Degeneres, Rock makes it crystalline that her refusal of the reins was what got him the gig in the first place. You can watch Chris Rock chop it up with The Hollywood Reporter for the cover story that never was below, but you'll have to tune-in this Sunday, February 28th, to find out how it all really plays out. Our guess: a bunch of old white people take home awards. Seems fairly accurate, no?
