In 2015, it was announced that adidas wasn’t continuing their apparel deal with the NBA. That’s when Nike swooped in, signing an eight year deal with the league. That deal officially begins this year, at the start of the 2017-18 season.

Yesterday, Nike revealed the primary uniforms that will be worn. The brand released a press release where they go in-depth about the technology, using phrases like “sweat maps” and “Aeroswift basketball chassis.” Here is what you need to know: there will no longer be home and away jerseys. Instead, there will be “editions.” There will be four editions, but only two have been announced so far, the “Association” and the “Icon” editions.

Here is how Nike described the significance of those two:

The Association Edition, the traditional home white uniform that all 30 teams will have in their assortment, links them as members of the most exclusive basketball club in the world. It represents an achievement that most athletes have worked their entire lives to reach.

The Icon Edition, previously known as the road uniform, represents the rich heritage and iconic identity that exists within each franchise. This edition utilizes the team’s primary color, a color that dominates the closets of the most diehard fans.

The other two editions will be inspired by “The Athlete’s Mindset” and “The Community.”

Also, the NBA plans to unveil a classic edition for eight teams in the league. It hasn’t been announced which eight teams will get jerseys.
