Espa Pray For Me Ta-ku Remix

Espa's Anthemic "Pray For Me" Gets A Fresh Remix From Ta-ku

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

This sure is a welcome surprise. Australian producer/bon vivant Ta-ku has just released a remix of "Pray For Me," the euphoric and uplifting dancefloor number from UK vocalist Espa. Seizing on much of the original recording's emotive might, Ta-ku applies his own patchwork beat style and renders the song as something lighter and freer--a move from self-affirmation into peaceful self-reflection.

Right from the start, Espa's song is doused in radio static and clipped vocal samples (is that you again on vox, Ta-ku?), eventually punctuated by a dampened heartbeat kick. Everything hovers on this "Pray For Me" 2.0, yet thankfully those gorgeous chorus keyboards remain. Ta-ku has always sounded best when he uses the sparsest materials, and Espa's soaring vocals are pared down to the barest minimum, still loaded with soul but now so fleeting, nearly frozen, in the landscape of another's making.

Both Espa and Ta-ku have recently dropped fantastic records, with the former unveiling her EP LG60. Ta-ku blessed his fans with the long-awaited Songs To Make Up To EP at the top of the summer, and now, near its close, it's only right that the two collide. Listen to he new "Pray For Me" remix below.
