UK singer-songwriter Espa has released a new EP dubbed LG60, a four track record that showcases her ever-expanding talent. Right from the opening spectral thump of "Orbit," the record's determined tone rings clear, and as each song gradually builds to its own climax the young artist's profile becomes a little easier to glean. Espa is a woman willing to take sonic risks--one who refuses to shy away from matters of the heart. For an EP so sprawling and varied in its forms (danceable house, R&B balladry and futuristic pop are all at work here), LG60 is simple at its core. This is a record about the necessity of human contact.

It's clear on tracks like "Four Walls," which has Espa aching over a love she can't (or won't) escape. It's also clear on "Pray For Me," the record's soaring second single, which still inspires deep, longing dances from across the dance floor each time it plays. Perhaps most interesting, though, is the EP's closing track "Rodney," which features the talents of Flatbush Zombies MC Erick Arc Elliot. "Say it again / Do it again" Espa exhales, begging a lover to satisfy even as she decides all the terms. A record much more complicated and lovely than your average future R&B joint, it's a great launch pad into the rest of your week and should play just as well in the club as it does in the afternoon sunlight.
