OKP Premiere: Brooklyn Funk Essentials Bring The Disco Strut w/ High-Voltage Single "Blast It!"
In 2015, a stone-cold funk band is pretty damn hard to come by. I mean, sure, you’ve got your dime-a-dozen cover-the-greats types, but a “whole funk, nothing but the funk” ensemble is as rare today as a phone-less millennial. But that’s where Brooklyn Funk Essentials steps in. Having been conceived in 1993 with “Planet Rock“ titan Arthur Baker and bassist/musical director Lati Kronlund at the helm, BFE brings time-honored swagger back to a canon that has few living ambassadors and even fewer doing it likes it’s 1977.
And today, we have the pleasure of bringing you the latest from the BK wrecking crew in their disco-leaning, rhodes-soaked single “Blast It!.” True to its name, the cut is brimming with high-voltage frequencies, anchored by a simple groove and an uplifting mantra that permeates. Strings soar, muted guitar licks strut in the “Funky Space Reincarnation” vein and the whole things wreaks of sweat on the dance floor. “Blast It!” comes as the opening track to the group’s forthcoming Funk Ain’t Ova LP, bringing together many of its original members under their original label at Dorado Records and it’s available for you to hear in all of its luscious funky glory below. Hit Pledge Music to preorder your copy ahead of the album’s November 13th release.
