Update: Rolling Stone has delayed the release of its charts.

In an article released on Saturday, the publication wrote:

This project is unprecedented for a consumer magazine. Rolling Stone’s charts will feature daily updates, as well as interactive functionality and unprecedented transparency, and we can’t wait for you to see them. While we had initially targeted a public beta launch of May 13th, we are instead going to remain in private beta for just a while longer to optimize with our industry partners and fully ensure the smoothness of our presentation.

Billboard has some competition.

On Monday, May 13, Rolling Stone will debut the “Rolling Stone Charts,” the publication’s own music charts challenging Billboard’s nearly 80-year long domain, as reported by Vanity Fair.

Unlike the Billboard charts, Rolling Stone’s top 100 songs and top 200 albums charts will be updated daily, rather than weekly. To further set themselves apart from their competitor, the new charts “will present a transparent, granular and real-time quantification to accurately reflect listeners’ evolving interests and give insight into worldwide trends.”

Metrics for the Rolling Stone charts will be provided by Alpha Data, an analytics start-up launched in 2016. This data will be measured and organized to create the two aforementioned charts, in addition to a number of other informative lists. According to Variety, Rolling Stone Artist 500 will measure the most-streamed artists, Rolling Stone Trending 25 will track songs with the most rapid gains in performance, and the Rolling Stone Breakthrough 25 chart will be made up of new artists who are appearing on the charts for the first time.
