Missy Elliott is The First Female Rapper Inducted into The Songwriters Hall of Fame

The hip-hop icon is the second rapper to be inducted.

Missy Elliott has earned her spot amongst a prestigious group of scribes. Today, The Songwriters Hall of Fame announced their latest class of inductees with the Virginia icon leading a roster that also features John Prine, Dallas Austin, Yusuf / Cat Stevens, Jack Tempchin, and Tom T. Hall.

Nominated in November of 2018, Elliott is the first woman in rap to receive the honor, and only the second rapper ever inducted, following JAY-Z  in 2017. A ceremony for the new class of inductees is slated for June 13th at NYC's Marriott Marquis Hotel.

Last year, Elliott appeared on a pair of remixes, but has yet to release a follow-up to her 2005 studio album, The Cookbook, which took home a 2006 Grammy for the Dave Meyers-directed "Lose Control" video. Last summer, rumors of collaborations with everyone from Timbaland to SZA swirled across the web. Nothing's surfaced just yet. But you can hold tight for her next transmission.
