Usher isn’t opposed to battling it out on Verzuz. Nearly one month after his meme-worthy NPR Tiny Desk Concert performance and new single with City Girls, he R&B icon spoke with E! News show Daily Pop about his latest Las Vegas residency and the potential of being involved in a future Verzuz.
The vocalist, whose real name is Usher Raymond IV, was asked whether he’d agree to a Verzuz with fellow male R&B contenders including Chris Brown, Ne-Yo and Trey Songz, confirming that he’d be open to the opportunity, but that the battle hasn’t been set in stone.
“There was a flyer that was put together. It’s not official, no, we’re not doing that,” he explained. “But I can appreciate what I see. Nah, there’s no Verzuz. I don’t think y’all ready for nothing like that. You might be ready for something like that on stage, maybe in the future. Stay tuned.”
Returning to his Las Vegas residency at Dolby Live at the Park MGM on July 17, Ush kicked off the series with two sold-out shows performing classic cuts including “My Boo,” “U Remind Me” and “Yeah!”
The last R&B Verzuz took place in Los Angeles between Omarion and Mario last month, with an opening four-part “battle” (that turned into an impromptu quartet) featuring Bobby V, Ray J, Sammie and Pleasure P of Pretty Ricky.
