Mark your calendars.

Ring the alarm, the Black Panther sequel is officially in the books.

Tonight, director Ryan Coogler took the stage at Disney’s D23 Expo to announce Black Panther 2 will be hitting theaters on May 6, 2022. According to Spinthe director’s announcement was met with vocal excitement and plenty of applause from the audience. Coogler was joined by Marvel Studios chief, Kevin Feige, for the opening reveal of the comic book giant’s presentation. Feige reportedly pressed Coogler for details, but the director didn’t bite.

The announcement arrives just weeks after Marvel’s “Phase 4” breakdown at San Diego Comic-Con, detailing more than a dozen new titles for big and small screens slated for release over the next five years. Black Panther 2 had already been more or less confirmed but was suspiciously absent from the docket in Hall H.

Before it was surpassed by Avengers: Endgame, Coogler’s MCU debut was the highest-grossing Marvel film ever, raking in over $700 million at the box office. It also took home three Oscars (Best Original Music Score, Costume Design, and Production Design,) along with two Grammys for its star-studded, Kendrick Lamar-curated-and-produced soundtrack (Best Rap Performance and Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media.)

Here’s to round two.
