On Thursday, Variety reported that rapper-turned-actor Method Man has teamed up with his manager Shauna Garr to launch Six AM, a production company. The group’s first major project is How High 3, the rights to which were recently sold to Universal 1440. The duo hope to reunite Meth and Redman on screen for the third installment in the series. Garr previously executive produced the movie’s sequel for MTV.
After nearly 20 years of work in the entertainment industry, Meth recently served as executive producer for Hulu’s Wu-Tang: An American Saga. In 2020, he launched the comic book podcast “Marvel/Method” for Sirius XM.
Previously, Garr worked at Wheel of Fortune before working as a segment producer for MTV’s unscripted show Like We Care. She also earned a $1.3 million grant from ITVS to produce an eight-episode unscripted youth series for PBS. Garr held executive roles with Buena Vista TV and Paramount TV before her switch to production.
Lil Yachty and DC Young Fly starred in the 2019 sequel, which currently stands at an audience score of 26% on Rotten Tomatoes, compared to the original’s 26% Tomatometer review and 79% audience score. The sequel originally aired on MTV in time for the 4/20 holiday. In 2018, Redman revealed that the iconic duo had no involvement with the project. They didn’t own rights to the film, thus Universal 1440’s status under the Universal Pictures umbrella allowed the company to create the sequel without their blessing.
“Me and Meth were not aware of the transaction of this movie,” he said. “My thing is, you have the Red and Meth brand that [helped build] and create this … those are all our ideas. When the new deal came about, we weren’t involved in it.”
This time around, however, all parties seem to be squared away.
