The Beastie Boys Story will debut in IMAX theaters on April 3.

Grammy Award-winning actor/director Spike Jonze has announced his latest project. In tandem with the legendary rap trio The Beastie Boys, Jonze directed and co-wrote Beastie Boys Story. The two parties already collaborated on the band's memoir, Beastie Boys Book. The memoir hit newsstands on October 30, 2018. The corresponding film will debut in IMAX theaters on April 3. Three weeks later, the film will be available to Apple TV+ subscribers.

"There are some friends you have lunch with so many times over the years, you know their order," band members Mike D and Ad-Rock said in a statement. "Spike is one of those friends. And even when you don’t recognize anything on the menu, he comes up with something good for the whole table. Like when we wondered what to do when our book comes out... then Spike placed his order: You will put on a show for the children."

In the statement, Jonze reciprocated the band's heartfelt sentiment with one of his own.“I owe Beastie Boys a lot," Jonze said. "One time, they pulled me out of a burning ship, and another time they helped me cheat on my college exam to get into Florida State. So, it was a real privilege to get to reunite with them and help them tell their story.”

Additionally, the two parties will release a photo book titled Beastie Boys on March 17. Beastie Boys Book is available for purchase wherever books are sold.
