Reader's Poll: Vote For Your 2016 MVPs

NxWorries Share Syrupy New Single "Lyk Dis"

By now you know we’re no longer in the business of giving you a definitive list of best whatever of the year. Silly conversations that get more feelings hurt than anything. But we are committed to hearing how you feel about this particularly lush year of releases. Hopefully you’ve already had the opportunity to vote on your favorite albums of 2016. If not, it’s about time you did.

Today, we want to go beyond the best project of the year and isolate which players were top performers overall. Think of it as all-star ballot for music. Your MVPs, if you will. We’ve broken down it down into three respective categories: producers, vocalists and MCs. And we’ve provided you with a list to start. Yes, there’s some overlap, because in 2016 the line between vocalist and MC is about as thin as ever. And who’s to say that Frank Ocean didn’t have one of the year’s best 16? Or that Anderson .Paak is just a raspy voiced crooner? Elasticity is key in the age of blurry lines.

So yeah, your work’s cut out for you. But if there’s one place your vote should count. It’s right here. Scroll on to cast your ballots for 2016’s MVPs in hip-hop and beyond. And if you don’t see your pick, just drop them in the “other” slot. We’ll be running this poll until next Friday, December 16th, and publishing the results that very same day. We look forward to hearing from all of you.
