Tupac-Inspired Restaurant To Honor 20th Anniversary Of Rapper's Death

A California-based restaurant is honoring the 20 year anniversary of Tupac Shakur's untimely death, by hosting a pop-up restaurant in his honor.

Take 3 Burgers (with help from Fresno Grizzlies Marketing Director Sam Hansen) is set to create the Powamekka Cafe, a Fresno pop-up eatery that includes a menu and logo inspired by sketches and brainstorms the rap icon left behind. The menu will include items like "the California Love Chicken Sandwich, Hennessey Apple Butter chicken wings, a Mac-and-Cheeseburger and Thug Passion cake pops (champagne cake with Alize-flavored frosting)."

Prior to this Hansen also worked with Kanye West early in the rapper's career, creating designs and merchandise.

"Working on Powamekka Cafe makes me feel like I'm bringing Pac's vision to life like I used to do for Kanye," Hansen told the Business Journal.

According to the Business Journal the idea to create a pop-up restaurant for Tupac came from a previous collaboration Hansen and Take 3 Burgers did, where the restaurant hosted a tribute breakfast for Notorious B.I.G. on his birthday this year. The dining spot took inspiration from lyrics to his song "Big Poppa," and served a T-bone steak, cheese eggs and Welch’s grape juice.

The pop-up shop will only be around for one day (September 13) and will conclude with local artists performing Tupac covers. So if you live in Fresno and are a big fan of the West Coast rapper, you might want to swing on by.

In other recent Tupac related news, Johnny Depp is set to portray the Los Angeles detective that spearheaded investigations on both Tupac and Biggie in a forthcoming film called Labyrinth. Depp will play Russell Poole, who recently passed away in April of last year. Not much else is known about the film outside of its source material, which is based on a 2002 book by Randall Sullivan of the same name. Brad Furman (Runner Runner, The Lincoln Lawyer, The Infiltrator) will direct.
