Pete, who was attending the film festival for the very first time, described the superhero movie as his favorite Marvel film.

"Marvel is killing it," Pete, who's also an avid comic book fan, said. "DC has a lot of catching up to do."

"Chadwick Boseman became my favorite actor next to Denzel Washington," he added. "No one could've portrayed Black Panther like Boseman did."

Pete also briefly spoke on the rumored Black Star album that's supposed to come out some time this year. He has produced for Talib Kweli (the other half of Black Star alongside Yasiin Bey, formerly known as Mos Def), as well as remixed "Respiration," the second single from the duo's one and only album Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star.

Pete said that he asked both Kweli and Madlib about the rumored project but they didn't disclose anything about it.

"Maybe Mos [Yasiin] was just talking," the artist said. "But it would be awesome if they came together for a new album."

Naturally, the conversation returned to and ended with comic book-related topics, including his least and most favorite Marvel Netflix shows (Iron Fist and Daredevil, respectively), as well as what he thought of Logan, the 2017 film that was supposed to be Hugh Jackman's last time portraying Wolverine. (Jackman initially said that the possibility of reprising the role in an X-Men and Avengers crossover was unlikely in light of Disney buying parts of Fox, but recent reports seem to suggest he's considering it.)

"It was good," Rock said. "I'd love to see him in an Avengers movie at some point. But just to see these comics and superheroes that I've grown up with and read on the big screen is really incredible."

The Pan African Film and Arts Festival (PAFF) is an annual event that takes place in Los Angeles. The 11-day festival, features over 150 films from "the United States, Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America, South America, Europe, the South Pacific and Canada, all showcasing the diversity and complexity of people of African descent." Okayplayer is a media partner with PAFF.
