Joey Bada$$ Talks Growth, Literature, The Exploitation Of Hip-Hop + More On MONTREALITY

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

Joey Bada$$ sat down with the good folks over at MONTREALITY for a candid and lighthearted Q&A session, a standard routine now for the Canadian crew. The Brooklyn-born mic slayer took a moment to shine some light on how far he's come both in his career and personal life since getting his feet wet as a mid-adolescent, reflecting a new found love for literature, particularly of the psychedelic sort (i.e. Ram DassBe Here Nowand a taking on a rap-game idol in 50Cent (though he admits the man's interviews to be more compelling than his music.)

They rap a bit on his forthcoming B4DA$$ LP and how much work he's been putting in, claiming it to be about 90% completed at the moment. So that's certainly something we can take solace in. Young Bada$$ then executes a pretty apt critique of how corporate mentality has infected hip-hop, chocking up "turnt" culture to a blatant scheme of cultural exploitation (he uses a bit more vivid language that I don't wish to lose my job over.) B4DA$$ is seems to be well on it's way, but if you need something to hold you over, peep the ill team-up on Statik Selektah'"Carry On" with Freddie Gibbs and watch the interview below.
