Childish Gambino's "Redbone" Earns Triple Platinum Certification In The US
Childish Gambino’s “Redbone” is officially certified triple platinum.
The Donald Glover-fronted group has earned a triple-platinum certification for the hit single which peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. “Redbone,” the second single from the album Awaken, My Love!, is now his third single to go platinum alongside songs “Heartbeat” and “3005.”
Two months ago during an interview with BBC Radio 1, Glover discussed how his mom and a hairdresser in Atlanta helped shape “Redbone” into the hit single it inevitably became.
“That was the breaking point, my mom was like ‘this song’s good,'” Glover said. “She plays it all the time.”
Glover then recounts how he showed an unfinished version of “Redbone” at an Atlanta salon, and although the group enjoyed the song’s beginning they did not care much for the rest of the track.
“The middle I felt like needed some work because they weren’t responding the same way,” Glover said. “So I went back in the studio and worked on it.”
Currently, Glover has started filming the second season of his critically-acclaimed FX TV series Atlanta. According to a report from Atlanta magazine, crews were seen in Mechanicsville (a neighborhood of Atlanta) between September 20 and 22, and at an office building in East Point on the 22nd. On September 25, signs were spotted leading to Southlake Mall.
