Givēon Gives A Spirited Three-Track Medley for NPR Tiny Desk

Givēon is the latest performer in the Tiny Desk Black History Month series.

On Tuesday, NPR Music released the latest edition of its Tiny Desk (Home)  Concert series. This episode, the fourth so far in the site's Black History Month celebration, features emerging Long Beach vocalist Givēon. Stream the full concert below.

During his set, Givēon reflected on the experience. "Any moment to do this would be special," he said. "But I think Black History Month, just celebrating Black culture for this month, I'm really excited to get to do this on this platform."

The three-song set consists of "The Beach," "Like I Want You," and "Stuck On You" from his two EPs: the Grammy-nominated Take Time and When It's All Said and Done. Givēon's backing band is made up of Deondre Ellis on keys, Ivan Chatman on bass, Andre Montgomery on the drums, James Murray on lead guitar and RaVaughn Brown providing backup vocals.

"Even though the circumstances aren't ideal," he wrote on Instagram, "I'm so honored to do this Tiny Desk performance for you all! Happy Black History Month."

Givēon's success, at this point at least, is a bit bittersweet. The COVID-19 pandemic had fully hit America just weeks after the release of his debut EP. In an interview with Okayplayer last year, he spoke about looking forward to the return of live concerts.

"I've never had a crowd singe along to my lyrics during a show," he said. "I can't wait for that moment to happen."
