Try as you might, escaping the pull of Donald Glover, as actor, musician or director, is virtually impossible. And while us civilians have surely taken note, a new Wiredprofile on Glover and his breakout year of dynamic output has underscored the praises of another eccentric, yet reclusive funny man. Namely, that of Dave Chappelle.

As the piece emphasizes parallels between Chappelle and Glover's respective bodies of work, Glover insists that the symptoms that plagued Chappelle's peak mid-2000's streak had probably already begun to play out in his own career, crediting his team for keeping his head straight through it all. In response, Chappelle gushed over Glover's myriad projects:

“I can’t keep up with all the shit he’s doing, but it’s all damn good. That he can do it all blows me away."

Chappelle refrains from comparing his show to Atlanta, citing changing times and race being "more nuanced" 10 years down the line. But it isn't hard to see how Chappelle's Show, a deceptively-subversive sketch comedy series that never held its tongue, could be likened to the show-don't-tell scheme with which Atlanta operates. Dave Chappelle's next act will arrive this year with not one or two, but three Netflix specials. Glover's due to star as Lando in a forthcoming Star Wars film.
