Over the weekend, protests over police brutality continued in major cities across the country. Rallies in Minneapolis began after the death of George Floyd on May 25. Protests were fueled by the deaths of Breonna Taylor in Louisville, and Ahmaud Arbery in Georgia as well.
Multiple celebrities have hit the streets to protest alongside their communities in order to help out.
Last Tuesday, Zendaya showed up to mass protests in Los Angeles outside Mayor Eric Garcetti’s mansion. Glee star Amber Riley and Kehlani also appeared at the L.A. protests.
On the same day, Keke Palmer hit the front lines, speaking directly to the National Guard onlooking protests in L.A.
Continuing the star-studded theme of the Los Angeles protests, Issa Rae on Sunday. Her “Bye Policia” sign stood out within the crowd.
The Bronx’s favorite couple were also in attendance in L.A. on Sunday. The two held up signs made by Jennifer’s 12-year-old children Emme and Max.
Meagan Good grabbed a megaphone during protests last week. “Now is the time,” she called out to the crowd. “Everybody, pay attention.”
Creed star Michael B. Jordan took the opportunity to call out the film industry on Saturday. “Where is the challenge to commit to Black hiring? Black content lead by Black executives, Black consultants.” he asked. “Are you policing our storytelling as well?”
The MMG CEO gave an impassioned speech at protests in Miami over the weekend. “When I grew up, they never told us that we wouldn’t be shit,” he said. “Because they never even thought they needed to…but guess what, we started buying back our own communities.”
King Kendrick made an appearance alongside fellow Compton native and San Antonio Spurs guard Demar DeRozan on Sunday.
YG called up fans to meet on Hollywood Boulevard over the weekend. During the gathering, he shot a music video for his new track “FTP.”
After dedicating $2 million to a scholarship fund for George Floyd’s daughter and the families of other victims, Kanye West hit the streets of Chicago to protest last Thursday.
Houston Rockets guard Russell Westbrook also spoke up at protests in Compton. “Protect your family,” he said, “in times like this we need to stick together. Put a fist up.”
J. Cole and New York Knicks guard Dennis Smith, Jr. collaborated with organizers in their hometown of Fayetteville, North Carolina last weekend. Cole has been spotted at numerous protests of police brutality over the years.
Atlanta MC Lil Baby donned a Black Lives Matter mask and shirt and hopped on a bike to protest in Atlanta over the weekend. “It’s a bigger picture,” he wrote on Instagram.
The legendary Houston MC joined a crowd of over 60,000 in George Floyd’s hometown.
Nick Cannon took the stage in Manhattan for the Black Lives Matter New York march.
Jamie Foxx protested with his children on Sunday. “Having my kids with me at the protest was bittersweet,” he wrote. “Let’s change the world so they don’t have to live in it the way we have been.”
Marlon Wayans shared pictures from past protests on Instagram on Sunday. “Ain’t nothing new,” he wrote. “Now that the world is screaming with us hopefully we can get some permanent change.”
After dropping his on-wax response to current events, “2020 Riots: How Many Times,” Trey Songz hit the streets of Los Angeles with Bike Rides For Black Lives to make their voices heard.
