A man opened fire at a restaurant in a Florida mall on Sunday where a Madden NFL 19 tournament was happening.

David Katz, 24, killed two people and injured 10 others before shooting himself, according to Katz, who was also a gamer and from Baltimore, used a handgun during the shooting which occurred at Chicago Pizza.

Jacksonville Sheriff Mike Williams said nine victims — seven with gunshot wounds, two hurt fleeing the scene — were transported to a hospital and two others with gunshot wounds drove themselves to a hospital.

EA Sports, the video game company behind the Madden franchise issued a statement on the shooting, calling it “a senseless act of violence that we strongly condemn.”

“Our focus right now is on those affected, and supporting law enforcement as they continue their investigation into this crime,” The statement concluded.

The NFL also issued a statement, saying the league was “shocked and deeply saddened by the horrific tragedy today in Jacksonville. Our hearts go out to all those affected. We are grateful for the first responders immediately on the scene. We support our partners at EA Sports and will continue to monitor developments with local law enforcement.”

Since then, numerous members of the gaming community have expressed their condolences while speaking about the importance of handling gun violence in America.
