The search for Prince‘s will has begun. According to CNN, the iconic musician’s sister, Tyka Nelson, filed legal documents in court today claiming that Prince left no will and testament behind. With the filing, Tyka, who is Prince’s only full sibling, would seek to have a special administrator established to maintain and look over Prince’s $300 million estate, which is projected to only grow as his music lights up the charts in the wake of his death, and already includes countless recordings, of course, the Paisley Park compound that housed studios, a performance space and the legendary vault, said to contain thousands of hours of unheard material.
Prince also had six half-siblings, who are all named in the petition, hoping to become heirs to The Purple One’s massive estate. There’s really no telling how all of this will play out in the time ahead, but it’s sure to get uglier before there’s any clarity. And so, the battle for the estate begins. We hope there are few, if any, casualties in the deliberation process, and that the Nelson family can handle this with expert civility as the world watches.
