Notorious Brooklynite Spike Lee is getting set to direct the quintessential Neil Bogart biopic Spinning Gold, starring R&B golden-child Justin Timberlake as the New York disco DJ, promoter and record executive. Bogart was the individual responsible for signing KISS, but made his oats by founding the ever-influential rock and disco label Casablanca Records and acting as an executive at Buddah Records before his untimely death, proliferating the early careers of seminal disco and funk acts like Donna Summer, The Village People, Parliament and Curtis Mayfield. While Neil might have left the industry wholly premature, Spike and Bogart’s son Timothy (who wrote the script for the film) seem to be keen on preserving the legend of the fellow Brooklyn native and manifesting the resurgence of his legacy in an era full of nu-disco mock-ups. Check back with us soon for more info on the illustrious project.
