Nicki Minaj Gets Her Second Number One Due to 6ix9ine Collaboration “Trollz”

Minaj and Tekashi 6ix9ine’s single “Trollz” knocks DaBaby and Roddy Richh’s “Rockstar” to No. 2.

Nicki Minaj is the second female rapper to debut at the top of Billboard’s Hot 100. The last time this happened was in 1998 when Lauryn Hill dropped “Doo Wop (That Thing).” Minaj and Tekashi 6ix9ine’s single “Trollz” was announced as the leader of the chart today. This is Minaj’s second time at the top of the well-respected chart, her appearance on Doja Cat’s “Say So” was her first time.

Nearly a week ago, on June 12 the track hit streaming platforms. The single rises above DaBaby and Roddy Ricch’s “Rockstar” which is now No. 2, it also surpasses Lil Baby’s “The Bigger Picture” (No. 3). With this slot on the Hot 100, the controversial rapper secures the top ranking for the first time in his career. It’s a historic moment for Minaj as a female rapper as she reportedly follows Hill’s chart-topping single which landed No. 1 on November 14, 1998.

After the news broke, Tekashi immediately took to Instagram to share his excitement. In an Instagram video he exclaimed, “I can’t be stopped… Didn’t I tell you? And we got blackballed. You can’t blackball me. Listen, I’m telling you, I’m going on a seven-day rant. You better unfollow me cause I’m going on a seven-day rant. Y’all tried to blackball me on radio, y’all tried to blackball me on radio. Apple Music, Spotify, didn’t give us no play listing. I can’t be stopped.” He also added, “This for the fans. We can’t do this without y’all we beat the industry.”

Nicki shared a few words on Twitter on the Hot 100 announcement. She wrote: “All I can muster up is the ‘I love you.’”

“Trollz” and its meteoric rise follows Tekashi recent public call-out of Billboard for allowing Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber’s chart-topping single “Stuck With U” to reign supreme. In a rant on Instagram, he declared, “I want the world to know Billboard is a lie.” He accused the platform of manipulating the Hot 100 methodology.
