Kool A.D. keeps himself busy. Along with being a parent the multi-faceted artist continues to release music (this year’s All Love and Real Talk EPs), draws and is still working on a novel that sounds like a cross between Infinite Jest and Invisible Man. And now we’re honored to be premiering A.D.’s latest project Gods Of Tomorrow, a 12 song release that, in his own words, has “some bars for the fans that didn’t appreciate the lack of bars on the last thing I put out.”
It’s true. Right from the beginning the title track is nothing but bars, as A.D. does lyrical laps with the utmost ease. “Style biblical, literal, whimsical fiddle / with the reverb dial for the residuals,” raps A.D. Where Real Talk began with the rapper putting his own Auto-Tuned spin on Kanye West’s “Real Friends,” Gods Of Tomorrow kicks off with straight raps, A.D. reminding fans that when he wants to he can rap his ass off. Most of the project is enjoyable but one of its standouts is “Party Til Ur Pregnant (Seance In The Studio Remix),” a 15-plus minute track that finds A.D. rapping alongside Busdriver and Sharkula, over a beat that floats with atmospheric synths and head nodding production. There’s also “Pink Cocaine,” which really highlights frequent A.D. collaborator Amaze 88 as a producer. Whatever sample he flipped for the track is smooth, complimenting A.D.’s effortless flow.
Most of the beats for Gods Of Tomorrow were done by Amaze 88, with Future Grammy Winners, Mike Finito and A.D. himself also providing production for the project.
We’re also premiering the visuals for the title track from the release, which finds A.D. rapping in his car as he cruises through somewhere we presume is in California’s Bay Area. The video, directed by Nick Knight, is shot in a hazy mix of vibrant colors, as scenes of A.D. rapping change every second. Gods Of Tomorrow will be hitting streaming services later this week, but until then you can listen to the project below via Bandcamp.
