Sheila E, Usher, and FKA twigs brought all of the frilly garb and seduction a heart could reasonably bear to their Prince tribute at the 2020 Grammys.
Announced just a few days ago, the performance featured a medley of three Prince classics,”Little Red Corvette,” “When Doves Cry,” and “Kiss,” with the “My Way” singer reviving a pristine falsetto, while twigs shifted from angelic pole dancer to front-and-center spirit. Serving as music director for their set, Sheila could be seen in the wings supporting the duo on percussion and singing back-up vocals throughout.
Tonight’s Prince send-up marks the first of two from The Recording Academy. Later this week, Sheila will lead another taped salute, set for broadcast in April, featuring The Revolution, Morris Day and The Time, Beck, St. Vincent, and more.
