Swizz Beatz has announced the latest matchup in his Verzuz series: DJ Premier will be going up against Wu-Tang leader RZA. Swizz Beats made the announcement on his Instagram page. The battle will happen on Instagram Live on Saturday, April 11th, at 9 PM EST.
DJ Premier and RZA both went to their social media accounts and confirmed that they would be facing off against each other.
RZA and DJ Premier are two of the most decorated hip-hop producers of all time. RZA is responsible for a majority of the Wu-Tang classics throughout the ’90s and DJ Premier has produced classics for the likes of JAY-Z, Nas, Gang Starr, MOP, Common, and more.
In some ways, this is a makeup for Teddy Riley vs. Babyface. That battle, which was highly anticipated, was supposed to go down last Sunday. However, at the last minute, the battle was postponed, with rumors that Riley was trying to find an additional platform. Instead, T-Pain battled Lil Jon that weekend.
For the last month, Swizz Beats has set up various Verzuz battles. The format is simple: two producers, each have to pick 20 of their most memorable songs. It started with his memorable showdown with Timbaland. The battles have been a source of amusement for fans who are quarantined. Primo vs. RZA is likely to be the best one.
All throughout social media fans are already clamoring for the battle and making predictions about who will win.
