For the 40th anniversary of Prince's self-titled sophomore album, his family estate announces a "special" release.

Saturday, October 19th marks the 40th anniversary of Prince's self-titled second album. In honor of the milestone, his estate announced the surprise release of a previously-unheard recording.

"The special, stripped-down demo recording captures a 20-year-old in a raw, intimate moment," the estate tweeted. "[It] begins with the sound of the artist pressing the record button on a cassette recorder and picking up an acoustic guitar."

"The recording was created in the winter of 1978-1979, around the time Prince was preparing to make his solo debut at the Capri Theater in North Minneapolis, and it was recently rediscovered on one of the countless cassette tapes stored in Prince's legendary vault," the estate wrote in a following tweet.

The album went platinum, peaking at #22 on the US Billboard 200 and #3 on the US Billboard Top R&B Albums chart. The demo recording is available now on streaming services. In addition to streaming, the demo is also available for a limited time as a 7" single. The estate has made copies available on the artist's official website.

In related news, Donald Trump's team violated an agreement made with the estate in 2018 when they played the late musician's song "Purple Rain" at a rally in Minneapolis, Minnesota recently.

After the song was played at the rally, the estate took to Twitter to share the agreement made with legal representatives for Trump's campaign, where they said they would not use any of the artist's songs in connection with Trump campaign events. The agreement came about after Trump used "Purple Rain" during his pre-Election Day rallies.
